Many Patagonia backpacks feature a removeable sternum strap, also known as a chest strap, designed to alleviate shoulder pressure and distribute weight more evenly across the chest.

This guide demonstrates how to reattach one specific style of Patagonia sternum strap - the c-clamp - named for its C-shaped cross-section. This style was used on some packs produced between 2009 and 2018.

Replacement parts are currently unavailable. To get a new sternum strap, take your pack in to a local Patagonia retail store for repair evaluation or send it in to Patagonia through their mail-in repair service.

    • At the bottom of the Sternum Strap "Rail" there is a flap.

    • Pull this flap back to expose the bottom of the Rail.

    • Slide the C-Clamp Clip back onto the Rail.

    • The C-Clamp can be difficult to slide on. You can pull the fabric that is around the Rail tightly to make this step easier.

    • Repeat the steps above on the other backpack strap.

This is helpful, except where do I find the replacement part! I contacted Patagonia and they no longer make it; they said to try a local sporting goods store or to send to Patagonia and they'll sew on a new daisy-chain version. My local REI does not have these parts either. Bummer!
