Anbernic

Anbernic is a Chinese manufacturer of handheld retrocomputing devices. These devices typically run a version of Android or Linux and allow users to play historical video games through software emulation.

Its systems have often met with acclaim, considered among the best retrocomputing devices released from 2020 to 2022.[1][2][3] Due to their popularity, a number of open source projects provide custom firmware for the devices, adding additional features and extended support. These include ArkOS[4], AmberElec[5] and ROCKNIX[6].

History

The Anbernic trademark was registered in 2017 by the Shenzhen-based manufacturer Shenzhen YangLiMing Electronic Technology Co., Ltd[7] as the company released their first handheld, the Retro Game (RG).[8] The brand became prominent after releasing a string of popular retrocomputing devices including the RG351, RG353 and RG35XX.
