Ashley Charles

Ashley James Charles (born 15 May 1999) is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for EFL League Two club Bromley. Born in England, he plays for the Grenada national team.

Club career

Charles is a youth product of his local club Watford since U14 level, and signed a contract with them on 7 June 2016 before going professional in 2017.[2] On 31 January 2019, he was loaned to the National League side Barnet for the second half of the 2018–20 season.[3] He was released by Watford in the summer of 2019.[4] He shortly after moved to Wealdstone, where he became a mainstay and starter.[5] He had a short loan with Concord Rangers in the winter of 2020.[6]

Charles completed a transfer to Bromley for an undisclosed fee in February 2024.

International career

Born in England, Charles is of Grenadian descent. He was called up to the senior Grenada national team for a set of friendlies in June 2022.[7] He made his international debut with Grenada in a 2–2 CONCACAF Nations League tie with El Salvador on 8 June 2022.[8]

Personal life

Charles was charged with rape and an alternative count of sexual assault by penetration by a woman, on a night out with his friend Dennon Lewis in March 2021.[9] He was found not guilty by a jury in July 2022.[10]
