Kogarah Bay Progress Association

The Kogarah Bay Progress Association is an Australian organisation serving the Kogarah Bay community.[2][3] It is simultaneously a political party under the name of the Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party (GRRRP),[4] and is registered in the state of New South Wales.[5]

History and leadership

The association was established in 1921,[6] and reached its centenary in 2023.[7] The Georges River Residents and Ratespayers Party was founded in 2021.[8] In its first showing in the 2021 NSW local elections, the party finished third and received 16,607 votes, earning four council seats.[9]

The Honorary Secretary of the Kogarah Bay Progress Association is Elise Borg.[10] Borg was also appointed as Deputy Mayor of Georges River in September 2023, alongside Sam Elmir becoming Mayor,[11] and she continues in that role. Borg is also serving her second term as Councillor.[12]

Activities

The association has generally been opposed to rezoning projects.[13] The association had also raised concerns about the development application by Georges River Council for the demolition of the Sans Souci Bathers' Pavilion, a local building.[14]

The association helped secure federal funding for the Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee grant program,[15] and has volunteered with preservation of the plants.[16]

It has also assisted volunteers during Clean Up Australia day.[17]
