Laylan Subdistrict

Laylan is a Subdistrict located in Kirkuk Governorate in Iraq bordering Sulaymaniyah Governorate in the east and Kirkuk District in the north.

Not to be confused with Leylan.

Laylan Camp

As of 2020, More than 7,000 people live in Laylan camp, most of them women and children. The camp was established in 2014 after conflict broke out in several Iraqi towns, including Hawija and Salah Al-Din, forcing many people to flee their homes.

Many of the internally displaced persons claim that they cannot leave the camp because they will lose access to electricity and water.[2]

Land dispute

Farms in the area are subject of an ownership dispute. Agricultural land owned by Kurdish people prior to the Ba'athist era was given to Arabs and the Kurdish people were driven away. The Kurds returned to the area in 2003 to reclaim the land, but have been unable to convince the government that they are the rightful owners of the properties.[3]
