Lucas Cepeda

Lucas Antonio Cepeda Barturen (born October 31, 2002) is a Chilean footballer who currently plays in Colo-Colo.

In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Cepeda and the second or maternal family name is Barturen.

Club career

Cepeda started his career in the youth ranks of Santiago Wanderers. Nevertheless, in 2014, he had a brief spell at the Colo-Colo Football Academy in the Estadio Monumental David Arellano, which he abandoned due to the exhaustion generated by the constant trips between Santiago –where the training facility was located– and Curauma, where, at that time, he lived.[1] After that, he returned to the lower divisions of Santiago Wanderers.[1]

In 2021, Cepeda was promoted to Wanderers senior team.[2] He made his professional debut in a 2–0 defeat against Palestino in a Chilean Primera División match. After Wanderers' relegation to Primera B, Cepeda made sporadic appearances in the 2022 campaign but was named starter for the 2023 season, where the team failed to promote to the first-tier during the promotion playoffs finals with Deportes Iquique.

On February 11, 2024, it was released that Cepeda was hired by Colo-Colo.[3] On March 31, he scored his first goal for the team in a 4–1 home win over Everton de Viña del Mar,[4] Wanderers' historic rival. Three days later, Cepeda scored an important continental goal against Paraguayan side, Cerro Porteño, for the 2024 Copa Libertadores.[5][6] His score was an agonizing goal (90' min).[7][8]

International career

In 2024, Cepeda received a call from the coach, Nicolás Córdova, to play in the CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament held in Venezuela. He played three games in that competition.
