Weapons is an upcoming American horror film written, directed, and co-produced by Zach Cregger. It stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael.

Development

In January 2023, Weapons, written on spec by Zach Cregger prompted a bidding war between Universal Pictures, Netflix, TriStar Pictures, and New Line Cinema.[1][2] Later that month, New Line was announced to have won the rights to the film.[1][2] The acquisition deal sees Cregger receiving "eight figures to write and direct" Weapons, as well as final cut privilege (pending test screening reactions to the film) and a guaranteed theatrical release.[2][3]

Casting

In May 2023, Pedro Pascal and Renate Reinsve were cast to star in the film.[4][5] In February 2024, Pascal exited the project, due to his commitments to The Fantastic Four (2025), with Josh Brolin entering talks to replace him.[6] In April, Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich joined the cast of the film, with Brolin confirmed to join as well.[7][8] In May 2024, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, and June Diane Raphael were announced to have joined the cast.[9][10]

Filming

Principal photography began by June 2024 in Atlanta.[7][11]

Release

Weapons is scheduled to be released in the United States on January 16, 2026.[12]
