Wesean Student Federation

The Wesean Students' Federation (WSF; /ˌɛw.ɛsˈɛf/) is the largest and the apex representative body for students of Wesea. It was established by a meeting held in Shillong, following the manipur crisis for greater wesean unity in the 17th of March 2024. The WSF was established after an internal division within the existing Northeastern Student Organisation or NESO, with the former claiming NESO to be corrupt, and that NESO does not serve the interests of the students. [1]NESO members were also critcized for using vandalism as a tool to make themselves heard in protests instead of doing anything constructive.[2]

History

It was formed following the aftermath of the 2023–2024 Manipur violence in order to foster unity among ethnic communities. The federation addresses social and political issues impacting the Wesean community, such as the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).[3] WSF has sought international intervention, including from the United Nations, to address perceived injustices and safeguard the rights of Indigenous people in the region. The organisation was also one of the first in northeast to talk about meitei-kuki unity in backdrop of the clashes.[4][5]
