Accountant, to earn a living. Was an English major in college. I was good at English and loved literature. I studied Middle English and Old English at introductory college levels. I took Introduction to Linguistics and I think I would really, really have loved to be a linguist. I was fascinated by semantics, psycholinguistics, psychoacoustics, and how different mind-sets in different cultures are reflected by, and reflect, different languages. I also loved dialects and love current slang. For a few years I lived in Jakarta, raising stepchildren who were in middle school then high school. I became fascinated with the way the youth slang would evolve really quickly, so thick there were books published by linguists to list and define the vocabulary; so thick that adults couldn't understand it; like a full-on dialect developed over just a few years. Wow, ask my autobiography and I just talk about long-forgotten dreams. I think linguistics is one of the deepest (to understand humanity) and coolest (to understand reality, the way math is cool but with a twist) fields of study there could ever be. I think semantics is my favorite area. However: I am an accountant. I am so busy I don't know if I'll ever have another chance to browse this wonderful site.
