On May 11, 1936, the Icelandic sports club Knattspyrnufélagið Víðir was established.
On June 1st, 1936, the Icelandic sports club the UMF Selfoss was established.
On October 31st, 1936, the Icelandic daily newspaper Þjóðviljinn was founded. It ended in January 1999 because of financial troubles.
