Danville, Missouri

Danville was laid out in 1834 and named after Danville, Virginia, the native home of an early settler.[4] A post office at Danville was established in 1834, and remained in operation until 1942.[5] A census-designated place named after the village, and including it, was established in or after 1980, and census-based demographics since that establishment reflect the entire CDP and not just the village proper.

Danville is in western Montgomery County, on the north side of Interstate 70/U.S. Route 40, with access from Exit 170, Missouri Route 161. I-70 leads west 45 miles (72 km) to Columbia and east 80 miles (130 km) to St. Louis, while Route 161 leads north 5 miles (8 km) to Montgomery City. There is a combined gas station-food store-lunch counter-florist shop just off the interstate, an automotive repair shop in the village, and a quarry operation just outside it; and no other businesses or services.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Danville CDP has a total area of 0.38 square miles (0.98 km²), of which 0.006 square miles (0.016 km²), or 1.57%, are water.[1] The community sits on a ridge which drains north to Rumbo Branch and south to Sallee Branch, both west-flowing tributaries of the Loutre River, part of the Missouri River watershed.
