Project Hail Mary is an upcoming American science fiction film based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir. Directed and co-produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, the film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub.

The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 20, 2026, by Amazon MGM Studios through the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures label.
Premise
A sole surviving astronaut on a spaceship is tasked with saving humanity.

Production
It was announced in March 2020 that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures was nearing a deal to acquire the project, an adaptation of Project Hail Mary, a then-upcoming Andy Weir novel, with Ryan Gosling set to star in and produce the film.[1] The rights for the novel was acquired by MGM's Michael De Luca for $3 million.[2] In May, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were hired to direct and produce the film.[3] Drew Goddard was hired to write the screenplay the next month and the title was tentatively called Hail Mary.[4] In April 2024, Amazon MGM Studios, who acquired MGM in 2022,[5] announced a possible 2026 release window for the film.[6] In May, Sandra Hüller joined the cast of the film, with Greig Fraser hired as cinematographer.[7] In June, Milana Vayntrub joined the cast.[8]
Filming
Principal photography began on June 3, 2024 in the United Kingdom.[9][10]
Release
Project Hail Mary is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 20, 2026.[11]
