Tennis Premier League

The Tennis Premier League (TPL)[1] is an Indian tennis league. Founded in 2018,[2] the league is supported by the All India Tennis Association (AITA), the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) and the Indian Wheelchair Tennis Tour (IWTT).

Former tennis player Leander Paes is part of the league.[3]

In season 3, which was held in 2021, Goran Ivanišević, Novak Djokovic's coach, was part of TPL. In season 4,[4] the winner of Wimbledon Championship 2022 men's doubles Matthew Ebden[5] from Australia[6] was a part of the league.

There are 8 teams participating:[7] Mumbai Leon Army, with Brand Ambassador Sonu Sood,[8] Hyderabad Strikers, co-owned by Rakul Preet Singh, Team Delhi, Pune Jaguars, co-owned by Sonali Bendre Behl, Bengal Wizards,[9] co-owned by Leander Paes, Bengaluru SG Mavericks with Brand Ambassador Sania Mirza, Gujarat Panthers with Arjun Kapoor, and Punjab Patriots co-owned by Taapsee Pannu.[10]

The founders of Tennis Premier League are Kunal Thakkur and Mrunal Jain.[11] The League kicked off its first season in October 2018.

Clear Premium Water has joined forces with Tennis Premier League as the official sponsor for season 5.[12] This time the matches are broadcast live on Sony Sports Network[13] from 12 to 17 December 2023.

Team formation

In TPL there are a total of 8 teams, with 24 players battling out for the final title. Each team has its own owner with a mentor,[14] coach, a physio and nutritionist.

They also have a selection of marquee national and international players, which get selected via auction.[15][16]

Race to Gold

Race to Gold is an initiative is organized by TPL in association with MSLTA, GSTA and DLTA to sponsor tennis players.[23]
