In March 2020, Amblin Entertainment announced they had purchased the film rights to Richard Osman's then upcoming The Thursday Murder Club, with Ol Parker initially attached to write and direct.[1]

In April 2024, Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley were announced as Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim, with Chris Columbus replacing Parker as director and screenwriter,[2] and Netflix coming aboard as distributors.[3] In May, Celia Imrie was cast as Joyce.[4]

In June, supporting cast members were announced to include David Tennant, Jonathan Pryce, Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.[5]
