  1. On 9 January, Bloxham was recalled back early from his season-long loan at Morecambe.

Pre-season and friendlies

On 8 June, Shrewsbury Town announced their first pre-season friendly, against Notts County.[34] Six days later, a second was added, against Coventry City.[35] A behind-closed-doors meeting with West Bromwich Albion was next to be added.[36] On July 5, a fourth friendly against Stourbridge was confirmed.[37]

Notes:
  1. On 16 August 2023, Reading were deducted one point for failing to pay players on time and in full on three occasions in the 2022–23 season.[38] Another 3-point deduction was applied on 13 September, for failing to deposit wages on time.[39] Another 2-point deduction was applied on 27 February, due to late HMRC payments.[40]
